세계적 컨퍼런스 유치를 통해 컨퍼런스 위상 강화
전력분야 미래 신기술 트렌드 예측과 방향성 제시
전남 나주 한전 본사에서 만난 배성환 신성장기술본부장은 글로벌 기업으로 나아갈 방향과 청사진에 대해 말했다.
BIXPO는 한국전력(사장 조환익)이 본사를 나주로 이전한 후 추진 중인 ‘빛가람 에너지밸리’를 성공적으로 구축하고 우리나라 에너지 신산업 우수성을 세계에 널리 알리고자 2015년에 처음 기획된 빛가람 국제 전기전력 기술 엑스포다.
지난해 열린 BIXPO 2015에는 당초 예상보다 2배 이상 많은 3만여 명의 관람객과 전 세계 40개국에서 약 600여 명의 전력분야 최고의 전문가들이 참여했다. 특히 행사기간 중 국내외 21개 기업 간 총 6억7,000만달러의 수출상담 실적과 브라질‧미국‧중국‧부탄 등과 8건의 MOU를 체결하는 성과를 거둬 성공적인 행사였다는 평가를 받고 있다.
올해 2회째를 맞는 BIXPO는 ‘Clean Energy, Green Power’ 슬로건 아래 11월 2일부터 4일까지 3일간 광주 김대중 컨벤션센터에서 개최된다.
본지는 배성환 한전 신성장기술본부장을 통해 세계적인 행사로 자리한 전력분야 전문 전시회인 ‘BIXPO 2016’에 대해서 그동안의 준비과정과 주목해야 할 부분에 대해서 들어봤다.

Q : BIXPO가 세계적인 행사로 자리매김했다는 평가를 받고 있는데, 올해 행사에 대해서.

올해 행사에는 세계 35개국 글로벌 전력 유틸리티 기업 CEO 및 CTO와 해외 전력분야 전문가 1,000여 명이 참석할 예정이여서 벌써부터 많은 관심을 모으고 있습니다. Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Omicron, FLIR, 미국전력연구소(EPRI), 독일 Fraunhofer, 효성, LS산전, 삼성SDI 등 총 176개의 국내외 우수기업 및 연구기관들이 대거 참가해 글로벌 비즈니스 교류의 장이 마련될 예정입니다.
주요 프로그램으로는 참가기업들이 최신 전력 신기술을 선보이는 신기술 전시회, 에너지 분야 석학들이 전력분야 전문 지식을 공유하는 국제컨퍼런스, 세계 35개국 70여 명의 글로벌 전력 유틸리티 기업의 CEO 및 CTO들이 한자리에 모여 토론을 펼치는 CTO포럼 및 ‘에너지 혁명 2030’의 저자인 에너지 미래학자 토니 세바의 ‘에너지 신산업의 미래’에 대한 주제로 특별 강연이 준비돼 있습니다. 또 국제발명가협회(IFIA)로부터 공식 인증을 받은 국제발명대전을 통해 발명가들이 참신한 아이디어를 갖고 국제 경쟁을 벌입니다.
BIXPO 2016은 기존의 일반 전문 전시회와 달리, 일반인들이 직접 경험하며 즐길 수 있도록 신기술 체험관을 다양하게 운영합니다. VR, AR 등을 활용해 일반인들이 평소 출입할 수 없는 변전소를 가상으로 방문해 볼 수 있고 로봇 및 드론 등을 활용한 전력설비 점검 등을 직접 운전해 보며 체험도 가능하도록 구성했습니다.
또 발명테마존에서는 세계적인 전기 및 에너지 발명품인 모스 전신기, 테슬라 발전기, 에디슨 전구 등을 보고 각종 발명품을 체험할 수 있는 공간을 구성해 일반인들께서도 많은 볼거리와 즐길거리를 만날 수 있습니다.
개막일인 첫째날 저녁에는 세계적인 지휘자 금난새 씨가 지휘하는 한경 필하모닉 오케스트라 공연이 준비돼 광주전남지역 주민들과 함께 깊어가는 가을밤에 클래식 음악을 즐길 수 있는 축제의 장이 열립니다. 둘째날 저녁에는 문화의 밤 행사로 전통 어가행렬과 국악연극, 아이돌 그룹 달샤벳 공연 등이 펼쳐질 예정입니다. 마지막으로 행사기간 중 지역사회 협력 및 상생활동의 일환으로 취업 준비생을 위한 에너지 공기업 및 에너지 분야 대․중소기업 채용박람회가 예정돼 있어 취업을 앞둔 대학생, 고등학생들의 많은 관심을 불러일으키고 있습니다.
In the BIXPO 2016, about 1,000 people including CEOs, CTOs and foreign experts in the electric power field of global power utility companies from 35 countries will be participating in the event, and it is already gathering great interests. Main programs are the new technology exhibition of presenting the new technologies in the field by participating companies, an international conference of scholars in the energy field sharing professional knowledge in the electric power field, CTO Forum of CEOs and CTOs from 70 global power utility companies in 35 countries gathering for a discussion, and there is a special lecture in the topic of ‘Future of new energy industry’ by Energy Futurologist, Tony Seba, who is also the author of ‘Clean Disruption of Energy and Transportation.’ Also, an International Invention Fair that is officially certified by the IFIA will be held for inventors to compete internationally with creative ideas.
Unlike other special exhibitions in the past, the BIXPO 2016 operates various new technology experience halls to enable the general public to experience and enjoy the new technologies. VR and AR are used to enable the general public to have a virtual visit to the substation that they can’t normally enter, and robots and drones that are used to inspect power facilities can be operated directly by the visitors for a new experience.
Moreover, the invention theme zone is organized with various inventions to see and experience, such as the worldwide electric & energy inventions of the Morse telegraph, Tesla’s generator and Edison’s light bulb. Even the general public can see and experience many attractions.
In the night of the opening day, the world-famous conductor Nanse Gum will be leading the Hankyung Philharmonic Orchestra to open the festival and to enable the residents in the Gwangju & Jeonnam area to enjoy classical music in the cool autumn night. In the night of the second day, there will be cultural events such as the Traditional Royal Carriage Parade, Korean Traditional Music Play and a performance by the IDOL group, Dal Shabet. Lastly, there is a Job Fair to the public & private energy companies for the job applicants during the event to enable win-win with the local society. This Job Fair is bringing great interests from college students and also high-school students that are preparing for jobs.

아울러 주한 캐나다, 핀란드 대사관 및 미국 상무관 등을 직접 방문 및 접촉해 개막식 대사 초청 및 국가관 유치에 힘썼으며 이번 핀란드 공동관 유치의 결실을 거뒀습니다. 또 미국 전력연구원(EPRI), 독일 프라운호퍼 연구소, CIGRE, CIRED KNC, 대한전기학회, 국제연소학회, 한국신재생학회, 한국초전도산업협회(KICS) 등의 다수의 세계적인 권위 컨퍼런스를 적극 유치해 BIXPO 컨퍼런스 위상을 높였습니다.
이런 수개월 간의 우수기업 및 연구기관 등의 유치 노력이 BIXPO 개최기간 동안 기업 간 비즈니스 매칭과 기술 수출 상담, 기술이전, 계약 체결 등 작년보다 더 뛰어난 비즈니스로 이어질 수 있을 것으로 예상되며 좋은 성과를 기대하고 있습니다.
We have put efforts from the beginning of the year through diverse methods to attract top companies and institutions for their participation in the BIXPO 2016. To attract many top companies for the new technology exhibition, we have personally visited the Korean Office of many large-sized companies and global groups, including Samsung SDI, LG (Electronics), LS Industrial System, Hyosung, Saudi Aramco, IBM, ABB and Schneider. Through 1:1 meeting with the personnel, we introduced the business performances that can be created through the BIXPO event, and succeeded in enabling the participations of large-sized companies including SamsungSDI, LS Industrial System and Hyosung.
At the same time, we have participated in numerous global exhibitions in the electric power·energy field such as the Distributech(USA), Hannover Messe(Germany), and Smart Energy Week(Japan) to actively attract global companies. As a result, we were able to attract companies and research institutes such as Microsoft, Oracle and Germany’s top research institute of Fraunhofer that participated in these exhibitions. Also, to invite key foreign experts in the field, we worked closely with the overseas business headquarters and foreign corporations & branches, and used the network with the foreign countries and overseas business partners. Finally, we have succeeded in inviting experts from USA, Canada, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Iran, Jordan, Nigeria, Ghana, Saudi Arabia and Dominican Republic.
We hope that these efforts to attract top companies and research institutes will lead to better business opportunities during the BIXPO such as business matching, technical export consultation, technology transfer and contracts, and we expect to have better results than the previous year.

This year, the Shared Growth Exhibition is organized largely into 4 events of ▲Small-medium sized business exhibition hall ▲Foreign buyer invitation business meeting ▲Joint export consultation with relevant institutions and ▲Export promotion seminar in the electric power industry to provide actual support and results to the small-medium sized companies.
First of all, the Small-medium sized business exhibition hall is operated to enable the small-medium sized companies to promote their excellent technologies and products, and also to enable technology exchange. In the BIXPO 2016, we are expecting total of 50,000 visitors including 1,000 global experts in the electric power field. Also, 70 CEOs and CTOs from global power utility companies in 35 countries will be participating in the BIXPO 2016 to be larger in scale than the previous year. Therefore, it is expected to contribute to expanding the technology networking opportunities between top global groups and Korean companies, and also to creating new business models. Better performances and results on export consultation, MOU agreement and technology transfer are expected this year.
Third, the BIXPO 2016 will provide an opportunity to inform the excellence of new energy industry in Korea to the world, and also show the Bitgaram Innovative City as a city that holds the global EXPO in the electric power. As the capital of new energy in Korea, and a global energy hub, the Bitgaram Innovative City will become the center of all new energy industries.
Lastly, it will contribute greatly to the activation of the local economy and also on developing the MICE industry. Through the BIXPO held in the Gwangju Kim Dae Jung Convention Center last year, it is said that the largest number of visitors came to the center since its opening to activate the MICE industry that was recently in its depression. This year, the entire exhibition halls of the Kim Dae Jung Convention Center were rented to expand the event scale more than 2 times, and it is expected to contribute greatly in developing the MICE industry of this area through the success of the BIXPO 2016.
